Filing Period for Apple Valley City Council Candidates Opens July 31

Two seats are up for election on the Apple Valley City Council this year; filing already has occurred in Rosemount.

The filing period for the Apple Valley City Council elections begins on Tuesday, July 31 and closes at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 14 this year. The date by which to withdraw candidacy is Aug. 16.

Two seats, held by incumbents Tom Goodwin and Ruth Grendahl, are up for election during the 2012 election cycle. Councilors serve four-year terms. The general election will be held on Nov. 6.

Affidavits of candidacy can be given to the city clerk at the between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday during the filing period, and until 5 p.m. on the last day of filing.

Candidates can find forms, information about filing dates and fees, and more facts on filing for office on the Minnesota Secretary of State's website.

Meanwhile, School District 196 will have no seats on the ballot this year.

Rosemount City Council filing has already taken place, because Rosemount holds a primary election for its municipal seats.

Six candidates . The primary election will be held Aug. 14.
