Filing Period Open Aug. 2-16 for District 196 Board Candidates
Four Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan school board seats will be up for election in November; a optional informational meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday.
The filing period for those interested in running for one of four Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan school district board seats up for election this November will be able to file their candidacy from 7:30 a.m. Tuesday through 5 p.m. Aug. 16.
Four board members' terms ; term length is four years, so the new term for those elected in November will run from Jan. 2 until the beginning of January 2016.
Candidates interested in one of the seats can pick up an affidavit of candidacy at the Superintendent's office between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. The affidavit must be turned in to the office—along with a $2 filing fee or 500 signatures from eligible voters—by 5 p.m. Aug. 16.

Five or more voters also can apply on behalf of a prospective candidate, which is valid if the candidate signs the application.
To be eligible to be a school board member, a candidate must:

- be eligible to vote
- be at least 21 years old upon by Jan. 2
- be a resident of the school district for at least 30 days before the election
- not be registered as a convicted sex offender
The district will hold an optional meeting for interested candidates with Superintendent Jane Berenz at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the district office in Rosemount. Call 651-423-7736 for more information.
