Five Things You Should Know Today: September 26

We're starting the week with a chance of rain, but don't despair – things are supposed to get better.

  1. There’s a 30 percent chance of showers today, according to the National Weather Service, with mostly cloudy skies and a high near 64 and northeast winds gusting as high as 25 mph. That 30 percent chance of rain persists into the evening, with a predicted low around 51 and north winds between 6 and 13 mph.  
  2. The District 196 School Board meets at 6 tonight at Dakota Ridge School, 4629 144th St. W. in Apple Valley. On the agenda: the 2010-11 annual report on curriculum, instruction and student achievement, and discussion of the 2011 property tax levy limitation. The public is welcome to attend. 
  3. The Rosemount Parks and Recreation Commission also meets tonight, at 7 in Rosemount City Hall. The agenda includes discussion of the 10-year capital improvement plan, a review of parks and recreation fees and the fee policy, and the director’s report. The meeting is public.  
  4. District 196 is offering a from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Rosemount Middle School, 3135 143rd St. W. The fee is $29; more information is available by calling (651) 423-7920 or on the District 196 community education website.    
  5. On this day in 1960, the very first televised debate between presidential candidates – Richard Nixon and John F. Kennedy – took place in Chicago.
