Overnight Road Closure on Cedar Avenue Scheduled to Start Friday

Cedar Avenue is scheduled to be closed from 10 p.m. Friday until 7 a.m. Saturday between 145th and 140th streets for water and sewer work, according to Dakota County.

Recommended detours are to use 140th and 150th (County Road 42) streets to route around the closure.

Other work coming soon:

• 10 p.m. Thursday (June 21): A short-term closure is scheduled at Cedar and 147th, where one direction of traffic at a time will be allowed to travel. The closure in each direction should last about an hour this night so crews can install parts of the new signal system at the intersection. While in effect, those traveling in the closed direction will need to use 147th to detour around the closure.

• August: The Minnesota Department of Transportation is slated to start $7.5 million of work on Cedar Avenue from 138th Street in Apple Valley up to the Minnesota River in Bloomington.

Construction on Cedar . The county project to accommodate a bus rapid transit system, a station-to-station line that would have buses running from Lakeville to a park-and-ride near the Mall of America and back every 15 minutes during the week.

The goal of bus rapid transit, which also is recommended or planned for other corridors besides Cedar, is to better and more quickly connect the southern suburbs with Minneapolis and St. Paul.

It was announced this spring that the original November 2012 launch date would be pushed back to at least 2013 due to discrepancies over bus station designs.
