The Apple Valley Planning Commission at its Wednesday meeting recommended the city council approve a site plan and building permit for phase on—the construction of the foundation—which would take place this fall, pending council approval.

The rest of the building would go up in the spring, according to a city memo; a new sewer line also would be installed.

The latest plans show the clubhouse—which primarily will act as a golf facility, but could also host banquets or other events in the off-season—will be 8,200 square feet on the first floor, and 16,400 square feet total (including the basement).

It will replace the current 3,700-square-foot clubhouse that was built in 1980. Maintenance costs for the current clubhouse have increased as "serious" structural, safety and septic problems have cropped up, golf course General Manager Jim Zinck said in July.

A 160-seat dining area, kitchen, offices and a pro shop are slated for the main floor of the new clubhouse; the basement will store golf carts.

Randy Johnson, the city’s parks and recreation director, said materials for the building’s exterior and placement of doors and windows are still being fine-tuned.

Plans for the rest of the structure will come to the commission in November; another element still under evaluation related to the spring construction phase is whether trees would need to be taken out and replaced because of the construction, according to the memo.

“Glad to see this moving forward,” commission chairman Tom Melander said.
