Public Invited to Red Line Rapid Transit Open House

Dakota County officials are looking for ways to encourage development along the route, and want public input from local residents.

Dakota County and a handful of other local agencies, looking for ways to promote development around the soon-to-be-operation Red Line rapid transit route, commissioned a study on the subject last year.

Now, the public is invited to listen to and comment on the preliminary results of that development study during an open house event from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3 at the Dakota County Western Service Center atrium in Apple Valley.

Dakota County, Hennepin County, Dakota County Community Development Agency and the cities of Bloomington, Eagan, Apple Valley and Lakeville are conducting the study along the METRO Red Line, which will bring station-to-station bus rapid transit service to Cedar Avenue this summer, according to a news release from county officials.

The goal of the METRO Red Line Market and Development Study is to identify strategies that encourage development and redevelopment around the six stations along the route: 181st Street in Lakeville; 155th Street, 147th Street and 140th Street in Apple Valley; the Cedar Grove transit station in Eagan; and the Mall of America transit station in Bloomington.
