Rosemount City Council Acknowledges Local Yellow Ribbon Committee's Hard Work

The City Council gave kudos to the Yellow Ribbon Committee at its most recent meeting.

The Rosemount City Council commended the Yellow Ribbon Committee for their hard work on becoming a designated Yellow Ribbon City at .

According to City Administrator Dwight Johnson, a group of residents have been meeting for several years to organize and promote various activities in the city to support service members and their families during deployment and when they return home.

The City Council officially co-sponsored their effort by passing a resolution in September 2010. The City of Rosemount was officially designated as a Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Community by the state on Aug. 23.

Don Sinnwell, chair of the Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Committee, spoke at the meeting.

"We are here to help you, and work with you in any way we can," he said.

In addition, Sinnwell stated that the committee has assisted several families with deployed soldiers.

"We've helped clean up water issues, mice in a house ..." Sinnwell said.

He also said they've helped one wife whose husband was deployed make a decision on purchasing a car, such as making sure the car was a good deal.

"We've grown from a small committee to a committee of many," Sinnwell said. "We're always looking for more people to join us."
