Rosemount City Council Praises Local Eagle Scout

A Rosemount High School sophomore was commended for his achievement of Eagle Scout rank.

sophomore Ryan Condon was acknowledged during meeting for achieving Eagle Scout status.

Condon's Eagle Scout project was to create a science curriculum that will be used by Head Start and the CAP Agency in Dakota and Scott counties. Because of his project, according to Mayor Bill Droste, hundreds of children who might not have ever experienced science teaching will now have the opportunity.

"My journey started in April 2010," Condon told council.

He originally was going to create a book drive for the Head Start program, but instead found out that Head Start was in dire need of a science program. They only had books, but no curriculum, Condon said.

So, Condon created 12 backpacks with materials inside that children can take home and learn with their families.

"The backpacks are completely self-contained and reusable," Condon said. "Families will receive $1 for every hour spent learning science with their child ... It gives them income and an opportunity to learn science."

"Ryan hopes to attend college on an ROTC scholarship which would allow him to become a submarine officer in the U.S. Navy," Droste said. "He's also interested in a legal career with the Navy."

So far, Condon is hoping to major in American history and physics with a minor in Spanish.
