Six Things to Know About Rosemount Snowplowing Rules

The city's winter parking restrictions are in effect until April 1.

Now that winter is here, the Rosemount Public Works department has posted snowplowing and parking restrictions policies on its website. The restrictions began on November 1 and remain in effect through April 1, 2011.

Here are six things you should know about city policy:

Tip 1: Anytime the weather results in two or more inches of snowfall the alleys, highways and streets will be plowed from curb to curb.

Tip 2: In addition to beginning snow removal after two inches, the city will also begin snow and ice removal if snow drifts or icy conditions are making it difficult to travel or if the snowfall is taking place during heavy traffic times.

Tip 3: Parking is prohibited on any city street, highway or alley from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m., regardless of weather.

Tip 4: The city will pay for damage to sod or mailboxes as a result of plowing. However, to minimize damage, city officials suggest planting stakes at the edge of your property for workers to use as a guide. The stakes are available, free of charge, at the Public Works Garage.

Tip 5: The city prioritizes streets into four categories: 1) high-volume streets and intersections, 2) school and major business routes, 3) neighborhood streets, 4) areas such as parking lots and sidewalks.

Tip 6: If you don't remove your vehicle from the street, crews will plow around it, but you will be ticketed. Tickets start at $10 plus state surcharges depending on the violation, according to Dakota County officials.
