6 Candidates to Vie for 2 Rosemount City Council Seats

A primary will be held Aug. 14 to narrow the Rosemount City Council candidates to four for the November election.

Six candidates have filed to vie for two seats this November. That number will trigger a primary in August to narrow the field to four.

The seats currently occupied by council members Matt Kearney and Jeff Weisensel will be on the November ballot for four-year terms. Weisensel has filed to seek re-election. Kearney, who has filled Kurt Bills’ seat the last two years while Bills served in the Minnesota House of Representatives, did not file.

In addition to the incumbent Weisensel, current Rosemount Planning Commission members Vanessa Olson Demuth and Wade Miller have filed to seek a seat on the city council. Maila Ellefson, Joe Kurle and Joseph Zanmiller have also filed.
