Super Tuesday 2012: Will Minnesota's Santorum Pick Prevail Against Romney on Busiest Primary Day?

Minnesota caucusers chose Rick Santorum as their favored Republican presidential candidate; on Super Tuesday, the potential candidates wait to see results from primaries and caucuses in 10 states.

This Tuesday isn't just another Tuesday, at least in national politics.

It's Super Tuesday, the day during primary season on which the most primaries and caucuses are held.

Primaries will occur Tuesday in Ohio, Georgia, Massachusetts, Vermont, Virginia, Oklahoma and Tennessee, according to the Associated Press. Idaho, North Dakota and Alaska will hold caucuses.

But, the article says, this year delegates from each state will be split between candidates based on the popular vote in the primaries. In prior years, the primary winner would get all a state's delegates.

Therefore, the results could allow multiple candidates to declare Super Tuesday success, the article says.

On Minnesota's caucus night in February, Republican caucus-goers in Apple Valley and the state as a whole .

In Minnesota, Santorum beat the other three hopefuls with about 45 percent of Minnesota Republican caucus votes.

Ron Paul followed with about 27 percent, Mitt Romney with almost 17 percent and Newt Gingrich with about 11 percent.

In Apple Valley, 833 people on Feb. 7.

The results from the presidential straw poll at the GOP caucus at for District 37A, which includes the western half of Apple Valley and part of Burnsville, were:

  • Santorum: 184 votes, 44.99 percent
  • Paul: 102 votes, 24.94 percent
  • Romney: 79 votes, 19.32 percent
  • Gingrich: 44 votes, 10.76 percent

The results from for District 37B, which includes Rosemount and the eastern half of Apple Valley, were:

  • Santorum: 190 votes, 44.81
  • Paul: 91 votes, 21.46
  • Romney: 80 votes, 18.87
  • Gingrich: 63 votes, 14.86
