Voter Turnout Tops 80 percent in Apple Valley, Rosemount

Apple Valley and Rosemount polling places did some brisk business on Nov. 6, with voter turnout exceeding the overall state figure by about eight points.

Nov. 6 was a banner day for local pollsters. Both Apple Valley and Rosemount clocked in with over 84 percent voter turnout during the general election.

According to official canvassing documents, Apple Valley tallied 29,715 ballots cast, with 5,146 election day registrations. All told, the city saw 84.5 percent voter turnout. The highest turnout was recorded in Apple Valley's Precinct 9, which saw 88.74 percent of eligible voters out at the polls. The lowest of the city's 16 political subdivisions was in Precinct 14, which reported 74.39 percent voter turnout.

Rosemount wasn't far behind, with 12,852 voters (1,924 registered at the polls on the day of the election) and 83.97 percent total turnout. Precinct 1 had the highest turnout of the city's 6 political subdivisions, with 86.82 percent of the electorate turning up at the polls. Precinct 4 recorded the lowest turnout, 79.11 percent, which is still about three points higher than the state at large.

Overall, Minnesota had 76.11 percent voter turnout, with 2,950,782 voters hitting polls out of the eligible voting population (3,876,752).
