5 Things Rosemount Residents Should Know: Heavy City Council Workshop Agenda and Fourth-graders Head to Dodge Nature Center

Here's what is going on in Rosemount today and other tidbits for Oct. 12.

  1. The National Weather Service says showers are “likely” after 7 this morning – 70 percent likely, according to the forecast. Skies will be cloudy, with a high near 68 and southerly winds between 3 and 9 p.m. Showers will continue tonight, mainly before 10 p.m., with cloudy skies, a low around 50 and light west winds.
  2. The Rosemount City Council has a work session scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in Rosemount City Hall, with a heavy agenda: a Dakota County transportation update, SKB Development commitment, the draft capital improvement plan for 2012-21 and a performance review of the city administrator. Public comments during city council work sessions are generally not solicited, but the public is invited to attend.
  3. The Dakota County Library Board also meets tonight, at 5:30 at the Inver Glen Library in Inver Grove Heights. The agenda includes an update on the library system’s budget development process for 2012 and consideration of the process for selecting consulting and architectural services for the Inver Glen and Farmington library capital projects.
  4. It’s PSAT testing day at Rosemount High School, and also a big day at Rosemount Elementary School, where the fourth-graders are taking a field trip to Dodge Nature Center. Take raincoats, fourth-graders.
  5. Today is the official Columbus Day, but since we already observed it on Monday, don’t worry about it. But it’s also Freethought Day, an annual observance of the anniversary of the end of the Salem Witch Trials. Think freely today.
