5 Things Rosemount Residents Should Know: Meet an Author, Check out the City Council or Stay Out of the Rain

Local tidbits to know this Tuesday, Oct. 18.

  1. The National Weather Service is predicting a high only near 46 today, with a 20 percent chance of showers after 1 p.m., mostly cloudy skies and north-northwest winds from 10 to 15 mph. The showers will dissipate this evening, with a predicted low around 32, mostly cloudy skies and north-northwest winds between 8 and 10 mph.  
  2. , author of “Through No Fault of My Own: A Girl’s Diary of Life on Summit Avenue in the Jazz Age,” from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the Robert Trail Library in Rosemount. The book is based on the diary of Clotilde “Coco” Irvine, the daughter of a lumber baron who grew up in a 20-room mansion on Summit Avenue. The event is free. 
  3. The Rosemount City Council meets at 7:30 tonight in Rosemount City Hall. Council members will receive an update on , Rosemount’s Halloween celebration; otherwise, the agenda is a light one. The public is welcome.

  5. October 18 was a big day for Simon and Garfunkel fans: The two reunited on the second episode of “Saturday Night Live” to sing “The Boxer,” “Scarborough Fair” and “My Little Town.” They’d get together again for their Central Park concert in 1981, and they’ve reunited to sing together and even tour since then, including a concert at St. Paul’s Xcel Energy Center in 2003.
