Apple Valley's Diamond Path and Cedar Park Recognized as 'Schools of Distinction'

Magnet Schools of America honored the Eagan elementary school and two other facilities in District 196 late last week.

Editor's Note: The following is a news release from School District 196.

All three elementary magnet schools in District 196 are recognized as schools of distinction for 2013 by Magnet Schools of America.

The School of Distinction and higher School of Excellence awards recognize magnet schools that show a commitment to high academic standards, curriculum innovation, successful desegregation/diversity efforts, specialized teaching staffs, and parent and community involvement. To be considered for an award, schools must submit an application with information about school demographics, a program overview, innovative instructional strategies used at the school, assessment, parent and community involvement, and awards and achievement examples.

Cedar Park Elementary Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) School, Diamond Path School of International Studies and Glacier Hills Elementary School of Arts and Science are completing their sixth year of operation as magnet schools in District 196. Enrollment at these schools is open to any elementary-aged student in the district through an enrollment application and lottery process which is held each January.
