District 196 School Board Candidate Bob Schutte

Schutte is one of seven candidates vying for one of four seats on the Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan school district board of education.

Tell readers a little about your background.

Bachelor's degree in psychology and special education; master's degree in behavior analysis and therapy at the University of Illinois and Southern Illinois University; corporate trainer for Multifoods for five years, quality coordinator for Elvin Safety Supply for eight years, account manager for Federal Reserve Bank Minneapolis for nine years; have been an instructor for Cardinal Stritch University and University of Vermont in classroom behavior management.

Currently I am serving my fifth elected term to ISD 196 school board. Both our children graduated from 196 schools and got into the college of their choice and have excellent employment as a result. My parents were both career educators and education was the main family focus in all our activities outside of church.

Why do you want to be on the District 196 school board?

I have the experience, the education and training, and also the passion, to serve my community in the best use of my background and interests.

What would be your top three objectives as a school board member?

Conservative fiscal management, strong educational programs and continual focus on educational improvement.

What opportunities do you see for any future cost savings or additional revenues in the district?

Increased use of technology to multiply the effectiveness of excellence in presentation of learning materials to students.

Do you have any specific changes you would want to make to district policies, curriculum, staffing or programs?

We have been very successful so far but we need to keep an eye to the future for capitalizing on new approaches and discoveries. I have confidence in the path we are currently following.

What is the purpose of public education?

To have an informed general population who can make group and individual decisions based on fact and logic and not be confused by disingenuous and illogical arguments.

Schutte is an incumbent in this election.
