Eastview Lineman Named All-State

Senior Zack Johnson was voted to the Associated Press all-state second team. Apple Valley senior Zach Martens was an honorable-mention selection.

Eastview tackle Zack Johnson was selected to the second team of the Associated Press All-State high school football team, announced earlier this week.

Johnson, at 6-foot-5 and 310 pounds, is known as one of the top senior offensive linemen in the state and has received plenty of interest from NCAA scholarship schools. Earlier this fall, he  to continue his football career at North Dakota State University next year.

The Lightning lineman is no stranger to all-star teams, as he was named all-state honorable mentions and All-South Suburban Conference in the past.

Coach Kelly Sherwin's Eastview team finished the 2011 season with a 5-6 overall record, 3-5 in the South Suburban Conference. Johnson anchored the line in Sherwin's 100th career victory—a 14-7 win over Burnsville in Class 5A Section 3 playoffs—on Oct. 25.

Apple Valley's Zach Martens, a senior offensive lineman, was selected all-state honorable mention.

The AP all-state team was voted on by sportswriters and broadcasters from across the state.
