Five Things You Should Know Today: August 23

Rain this morning, but fear not – things will clear up later and get pretty warm.

  1. The National Weather Service is predicting a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms today, but skies will become mostly sunny later in the day, with a high near 89. The possibility of rain crops up again this evening, with a 20 percent chance before 1 a.m. and a low around 68.
  2. The Rosemount Planning Commission meets at 6:30 p.m. in Rosemount City Hall. On the agenda: public hearings on the final development plan and lot split for Feed Products North Inc. planned unit development, and the final site and building plan for the Hawkins Inc. planned unit development. The public is welcome to attend.
  3. Sixth-graders and new students at Rosemount Middle School can pick up their schedules today from noon to 7 p.m. at the school. (Good luck in middle school, sixth-graders!)
  4. Zhang Ying and Rhonda Lund will give a presentation on “” at 10 a.m. in Eagan’s Caponi Art Park. The two will tell stories and play bamboo, clay and bone flutes. Everyone is welcome.
  5. Today is National Spongecake Day. Don’t get it confused with National Spongebob Day. That could be awkward.
