Five Things You Should Know Today: September 23

The first day of autumn will be a nice one – nicer than the last few days of summer.

  1. We’ll have patchy fog before 8 this morning, but otherwise skies will be mostly sunny today, with a high near 61 and calm winds, the National Weather Service says. More patchy fog tonight after 4 a.m., with partly cloudy skies, a low around 39 and calm winds.
  2. The at 7 tonight in a football matchup. It should be a pretty nice night for football, but fill your Thermos with coffee. Or something else to keep you warm.
  3. The fourth annual begins at noon today at Southern Hills Golf Course in Farmington. Lunch will be served at noon, followed by a best-ball shotgun start at 1 p.m., and dinner after the tournament.
  4. Have you heard that students in the Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan school district improved their reading and math scores in 2010-11? Check out the results .
  5. National Banned Books Week starts tomorrow. Celebrate freedom from censorship by reading a banned book. Need ideas? Check the American Library Association’s website
