Five Things You Should Know Today: September 30

The sun returns today, but we won't be setting any high-temperature records.

  1. The National Weather Service is predicting sunny skies today – finally – with a high near 59 and winds from the north and northwest at 10 to 14 mph. Tonight’s low will be around 36, with mostly clear skies and mostly calm winds. But hang in there – there’s a slow warmup coming.  
  2. The at 7 tonight in Lakeville.
  3. A of children’s clothing, toys and equipment runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today in the Hasse Hockey Arena, 8525 215th St. W. in Lakeville. More than 200 sellers will be on hand. The sale continues Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with many items 50 percent off. The sale is organized by From Yours to Mine.   
  4. The city’s is set for Saturday. Rosemount residents will be offered discounted fees to dispose of a wide range of items – anything that residential solid-waste haulers won’t take – from 8 a.m. to noon at the Rosemount Public Works Facility, 14455 Brazil Ave. 
  5. Today is not only International Translation Day, introduced in 1991 by the International Federation of Translators, but also Blasphemy Day, begun in 2009 to encourage individuals and groups to openly express their criticism of – or disdain for – religion.
