Rosemount Football May Move Up To New 6A Class in 2012

The new class will consist of the state's 32 largest schools.

The Rosemount football team may be moving up a class beginning in 2012 thanks to an approved Minnesota State High School League vote on Thursday.

The MSHSL board of directors approved a move to add a seventh football class effective in the 2012 season, according to the MSHSL website.

The schools with the 32 largest enrollments will make up Class 6A. Rosemount High School’s enrollment is the 18th largest in the state at 2,013, according to the MSHSL site.

The move means football will have six 11-man football divisions listed as Class 1A-6A and a 9-man class. But, according to a post on the MSHSL website by media specialist John Millea, there is the potential for teams to opt down to Class 5A or up to Class 6A. It is not yet clear which decision will be made by Rosemount High School.
