We all have a favorite—a teacher who changed our lives with a particular lesson, a piece of advice or a word of encouragement. Maybe your child has or had a teacher who even you as the parent could tell was a positive influence or inspiration.

Do you know a great teacher, past or present, whom you would like to recognize?

May 8 is National Teacher Day and the week of May 7-11, 2012 is Teacher Appreciation Week. We want to celebrate the teachers in your life.

Here are some ways you could use to highlight the teachers you've seen make an impact:

For me, the teacher who made the most lasting impact was my high school social studies teacher, Mr. Douglass. He was an engaging and creative instructor, but what I most remember now is the advice he gave us as we decided what to do with the rest of our lives. Basically (paraphrasing here), he told us to go where we'd be surrounded by the smartest people possible, because that's how we'd learn the most and become our smartest selves. I still try to keep it in mind.
