5 Apple Valley Runners Finish Boston Marathon

Participants were offered a deferment until 2013 because of high temperatures.

Of the select number of people who get to enter the world-famous Boston Marathon, five runners finished the daunting 26.2 miles on Monday, made more difficult by high temperatures.

Congratulations to the following Apple Valley participants, listed with name, age, finish time and place overall:

  • Jon Moynihan, 34, 3:27:04, 2,651st
  • Thomas J. Schaffer, 39, 3:37:51, 4,197th
  • Stephanie A. Peterson, 35, 3:55:19, 7,568th
  • Rick P. Lyrek, 50, 4:36:24, 15,073rd
  • Jeff W. Bostow, 56, 4:54:41, 17,216th

Originally, nine people from Apple Valley were official entrants to the race, according to the Boston Marathon website. More than 22,000 people were entered.

Participants were offered a deferment until 2013 because of temperatures in the upper-80s, according to our sister site, . More than 2,100 runners were treated for dehydration and heat exhaustion during the race, according to the Boston Globe.
