5 Things Rosemount Residents Should Know Today: Fire Department's Open House, and Scares in Burnsville

It's going to be a good night for football. Or getting the wits scared out of you. Take your pick.

  1. The National Weather Service is calling for mostly sunny skies today, with a high near 56 and west winds from 10 to 13 mph, increasing to 20 to 23 mph. It will be mostly clear tonight, with a low around 40 and west-northwest winds from 9 to 16 mph, gusting to 25 mph. In other words: It’s fall. 
  2. The for a varsity football game at 7 p.m. (Keep in mind that there’s no football game next Friday because of the Minnesota Education Association convention; Rosemount plays Eagan at home on Oct. 19.) 
  3. The is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at Fire Station No. 1 on Shannon Parkway. The event falls during Fire Prevention Week; families are invited to view demonstrations of auto extrication, the North Air Care helicopter and airbag safety, along with meeting firefighters and Sparky the fire dog. 
  4. Looking for a pre-Halloween scare? Check out in Burnsville, featuring more than 100 ghouls, goblins and vampires at the Asylum, Haunted Hollow, the Fright Factory and Orchard Manor Dead & Breakfast. Tonight’s entertainment will be provided by the Big Twang (for ages 21 and older), the Garage (all ages) and Kevin Hall’s magic show, as seen on “America’s Got Talent.” Tickets are $20 Wednesdays through Saturdays and $18 on Sundays.    
  5. Today is Be Bald and Free Day, and also National Dessert Day. That conjures all kinds of images, not all of them particularly pleasant. Celebrate as you wish.
