Apple Valley Boys Soccer to Play in 700th Game Tonight

Legendary head coach Chuck Scanlon has led the Eagles for 35 of the school's 36 years.

An historic soccer match is on tap at Johnny Cake Ridge Park this evening.

The Apple Valley High boys soccer team will be playing its 700th game in school history, tweets Tim Leighton, prep sports writer for the Pioneer Press.

The undefeated Eagles, 5-0 overall, will host Bloomington Kennedy, 1-1-1 overall, at 7 p.m. in the South Suburban Conference opener for both teams.

Head coach Chuck Scanlon has been on the sideline for 35 of Apple Valley’s 36-year history, compiling a state-record 546 wins over that time, according to the Minnesota State High School Soccer Coaching Association website. Entering this season, his winning percentage stood at .834, second best in state history.

Scanlon's teams have won nine state championships—in 1984, 1988, 1989, 1992, 1997, 1998, 2006, 2009 and 2010—and put together a 46-match win streak during the 2009 and 2010 seasons. Both of those marks are state records, according to the MSHSSCA website.
