Apple Valley, Eastview Track Compete At Conference Prelims

Both boys teams are in the hunt for the conference championship when play resumes Wednesday at Apple Valley High School

The Eastview and Apple Valley boys and girls track and field teams competed in the South Suburban Conference preliminary championships on Tuesday at Apple Valley High School.

The Eastview boys team heads into Wednesday’s finals in third place with 38 points, while Apple Valley is third with 21 points. On the girls side, Apple Valley is fifth with 21 points and Eastview is seventh with 18 points.

The meet will resume at 3 p.m. on Wednesday at Apple Valley.

Apple Valley’s Taylor Browning has the top prelim seed in the girls 100 meter dash at 12.68 seconds, while Eastview’s Alex Beckman is second at 12.24. Browning also finished with the top seed in the girls 200 meter dash at 25.45.

Lightning sophomore Eric Bestul is the top seed in the girls 800 meter at 2:22. Apple Valley senior Chanel Miller is the top seed in the girls 100 meter hurdles at 15.13 and first in the 300 meter hurdles at 46.12 seconds.

Beckman won the girls triple jump with a finals jump of 37 feet, 2 inches.

Apple Valley sophomore Hannah Linder took second in the girls pole vault finals with a 11-foot, 3-inch jump.

On the boys side, Apple Valley’s Herschel Brazell and Quinn Hooks are the top two prelim seeds, respectively, with 11.21 and 11.33 times.

Eagles junior Mitch Herschel is the top seed in the boys 400 meter dash at 50.12 seconds, and teammate Kevin Davis is the top seed in the 110 meter hurdles at 15.63.

Eastview’s Charlie Krengel won the boys long jump finals with a jump of 21 feet, 9 inches.

Lightning sophomore Ryan Lockard took second in the boys high jump finals at 6 feet, 5 inches. His teammate, Frank Veldman, took third at 6 feet, 10 inches.
