Apple Valley, Eastview Track Have Strong Showings at Section Meet

Apple Valley High School's boys track team won the 14-team section on Thursday, while the girls team took second. Eastview boys came in second, while the girls were 2.5 points short of second.

Apple Valley and Eastview track teams made strong showings at the 14-team Section 3AA meet at St. Thomas University on Thursday.

The Apple Valley boys team placed first, while the Eastview boys team placed second at the meet. The Apple Valley girls team placed second, and the Eastview girls team landed 2.5 point out of second place.

Athletes at both schools qualified for the state meet, scheduled for next weekend, in several events.

Apple Valley High School track event state qualifiers:

Boys—Joe Quam: shotput, discus; Kevin Davis: 110-meter hurdles; Herschel Brazell: 100-meter run; Jordan Crockett: 200-meter run; Mitchell Hechsel: 400-meter run; Quinn Hooks, Steven Wilson, Jordan Crockett, Herschel Brazell: 4 x 200-meter relay and 4 x 100-meter relay; Quinn Hooks: high jump

Girls—Chanel  Miller: 100-meter hurdles; Taylor Browning: 100 and 200-meter run; Jordan Sammons, Megan Maki, Shadday Williams, Jaryn Pipkins: 4 x 200-meter relay; Megan Maki, Jaryn Pipkins, Chanel Miller, Taylor Browning: 4 x 100-meter relay (Minnesota all-time best); Marissa Akinseye: shotput; Kelsey Harms, Hannah Linder, Emily Bonewell: pole vault

Eastview High School track event state qualifiers:

Boys—Frank Veldman: high jump, long jump; Erik Rosvold: 1,600-meter run; Ken Hoffman: 1,600-meter run; Ryan Lockard: high jump

Girls—Alex Beckman: triple jump, 100-meter run; Alex Beckman, Claire Elliot, Paris Sanders, Leah Neshiem: 4 x 100-meter relay; Erica Bestule: 800 and 1,600-meter runs; Anne Ferguson: 800-meter run; Melita Ware: triple jump
