Apple Valley Football Scrimmage Successful, Coach Says

Five days before the season opener, the Eagles played well at the Burnsville scrimmage.

After two weeks of facing each other in practice, the football team got to hit players wearing other schools' jerseys at a scrimmage Saturday in Burnsville.

In addition to the Eagles and Blaze, Blaine, St. Thomas Academy and Shakopee took part.

"I was very pleased with how we played today," said Eagles coach Mike Fritze.

"Other than a couple of long runs allowed to St. Thomas, defensively we got to the ball well, tackled well and we forced some turnovers," he said. "Offensively, we threw the ball pretty well, and we ran the ball pretty well, so we were pretty balanced. I'm real happy with today."

Fritze said running backs Dom McDew-Stauffer and Garrett Ganskie had good days, offensive lineman Zack Martens was his usual strong self and Matt Thomas looked good throwing the ball. Harry Sonie had one of two interceptions by the defense, which also recovered three fumbles.
