Apple Valley's Schalk To Compete In All-Star Event This Weekend
The Eagles senior was one of 40 basketball players chosen for the state's All-Star basketball series
boys basketball senior Tom Schalk is set to participate in the 2011 Minnesota All-Star Basketball Series, which takes place Friday at St. Cloud State University and Saturday at Macalester College in St. Paul.
Schalk was a starter on Apple Valley’s state tournament team in 2009 and was a vital part of the squad’s 19-10 effort this season. The Eagles lost to Lakeville South 74-58 in the .

Schalk is one of 40 athletes selected to the All-Star series. The players are broken into four squads—Blue, Green, Maroon and Gold—and will play one game each day.
Schalk is on the Green team, coached by Duluth East’s Chuck Tolo and Will Starks, and will play at 8:45 p.m. on Friday and either 2:15 or 4 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets at the door are $8 for adults and $5 for children, with kids 5 and under admitted for free.

Each day there will be 3-point shooting and dunk contests that precede the games.
The Green squad has two members of 2011 state champion teams. Marvin Singleton helped Hopkins win the Class AAAA title on March 26, while Jordan Smith led Orono to the school’s first Class AAA title.
