Boys Hockey: Apple Valley Scores OT victory

Trent Heuer's goal lifts the Eagles over East Ridge, 4-3, Thursday night.

Trent Heuer scored at the 2:07 mark in overtime to lift the Apple Valley High boys hockey team to a 4-3 victory over East Ridge in a non-conference matchup Thursday night in Cottage Grove.

Johnny Dirks recorded the assist on the game-winning shot for the Eagles, who evened their record at 1-1. They opened the season with a 6-0 loss at Minnetonka on Tuesday.

Apple Valley shot out to a 2-0 lead in the first period with goals from Jordan Ocel, with assists from Anthony Benda and Dusty LaFrance, and Tate Erickson, with an assist from Sean Lang. The Eagles upped their lead to 3-0 on a power-play goal by Benda, with assists from LaFrance and Derek Smith, before East Ridge rallied to tie and send the game into overtime.

Apple Valley will visit Wayzata on Dec. 6.

Eastview falls to 1-1

Eastview followed its season-opening 3-1 win over Hastings Tuesday with a 7-1 loss at Edina Thursday.

In Tuesday’s opener at Hastings, the Lightning got a first-period power-play goal from Nick Abbott and second-period goals from Scott Nelson, with an assist from Ryan McNamara; and Jake McGlocklin, with an assist from Abbott.

Eastview will play host to East Ridge at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday.
