Eastview Boys Soccer Downs Mayo 2-1 in State Quarterfinal
The Lightning earned a spot in the state semifinals on Tuesday.
The boys soccer team advanced to the Class AA state semifinals with a 2-1 win over Rochester Mayo on Thursday in the state quarterfinals at Park Cottage Grove.
The Lightning advanced to face either Minneapolis Southwest or Anoka in the semifinals on Tuesday. Game time is set for 2 p.m. at the Metrodome.
The Lightning (19-0-1) took a 2-0 lead in the first half and never looked back. Eastview’s Mathew Gweh scored both goals on the night, finding the net at the 8:06 mark, then scoring again at the 27:36 mark of the first half.

Mayo scored with nine minutes remaining to cut the lead to 2-1, but it was too little, too late.
The Lightning out-shot Mayo 9-7 in the game. Mayo finished the season with a 13-4-2 record.
