The Eastview boys open state tournament action on Thursday by playing Moorhead at St. Cloud State University.

White Bear Lake scored with about three minutes left in regulation to defeat the Lightning, 1-0, in the Class 2A state quarterfinals Wednesday night at Hopkins High School.

White Bear Lake was the tournament’s fourth seed, while Eastview was the fifth seed.

The loss ends what could be described as a successful season for Eastview, which finished with a 13-4-1 record and the Section 3AA championship. Two of the losses were against White Bear Lake, which also beat the Lightning 2-0 on Aug. 25.

Eastview was making its second consecutive appearance in the state tournament. Last year, Centennial defeated the Lightning in the first round.

In the other side of the Class 2A bracket, Wayzata will play Blaine in the semifinals. On Wednesday, number-two Wayzata shut out St. Michael-Albertville, 6-0, and Blaine upset third-seed Centennial, 2-0. Both matches were at St. Cloud State University.
