Football Friday: Apple Valley, Eastview to 'Battle for the Apple'

Apple Valley's two high school teams will play for a new trophy and a top spot in the South Suburban Conference.

Eastview and Apple Valley High will be playing for more than bragging rights in their football game tonight. They will be fighting for a trophy.

The winner of the game between Apple Valley’s two high schools will take possession of the new Battle for the Apple trophy.

Team captains are seen modeling the trophy in a photo posted and shared on Twitter this past week.

Apple Valley, tonight’s home team, enters the game tied for first place in the South Suburban Conference with a 4-1 record overall and in the league. Eastview is a half-game back, with a 3-2 record overall and 3-1 mark in the SSC.

In tonight’s other game involving Apple Valley-Rosemount teams, Rosemount visits Lakeville South.

TEAM RECORDS—Eastview: 3-2 overall, 3-1 SSC; Apple Valley: 4-1 overall, 4-1 SSC
LAST WEEK—Eastview defeated Bloomington Jefferson, 35-14; Apple Valley defeated Bloomington Kennedy, 35-6
GAME NOTES—Tied at 7-7 in the second quarter, Eastview put the game away its game with Jefferson with four unanswered touchdowns. Will Rains has a big night for the Lightning with three rushing touchdowns. Henry McIssac’s 13-yard touchdown pass and Davis Burnham’s four-yard scoring run accounted for Eastview’s other scores.... Quinn Hooks scored on runs of 35 and 60 yards, and Dom McDew-Stauffer scored his ninth touchdown of the season in Apple Valley’s victory. Apple Valley also scored on a 60-yard touchdown pass from Tommy Singer to Dustin Fronk and on a punt return.

TEAM RECORDS—Rosemount: 2-3 overall, 2-2 SSC; Lakeville South: 2-3 overall, 2-2 SSC
LAST WEEK—Rosemount defeated Eagan, 17-16; Lakeville South defeated Burnsville, 35-10
GAME NOTES—Brandon Ekeren kicked a 31-yard field goal with 12 seconds left as Rosemount topped Eagan.... Jordan Johnson rushed for 99 yards and two touchdowns in Lakeville South’s win over Burnsville on Sept. 28. South’s defense limited Burnsville to minus-8 yards rushing, but gave up 292 yards passing.
