Football Friday: Eastview, Rosemount Take on Class 5A Powerhouses

In other action, Apple Valley travels to Bloomington Jefferson for a South Suburban Conference game.

Eastview and Rosemount face stiff challenges as the second week of the high school football season kicks off tonight.

The local South Suburban Conference teams venture out of the league for matchups against the finalists in last year’s Class 5A championship game.

Rosemount takes its 0-1 record into a home game against defending state champion Eden Prairie. The Eagles enter tonight as the top team in the StarTribune’s metro top 10 rankings.

Meanwhile, Eastview, 1-0, faces the state runner-up Wayzata, which is number two in the metro rankings.

In the other game involving local teams, Apple Valley, 1-0, will visit Bloomington Jefferson in a conference game.

LAST WEEK—Apple Valley defeated Rosemount, 25-20; Bloomington Jefferson lost to Wayzata, 52-7.
GAME NOTES—Tommy Singer threw for 205 yards and two touchdowns to lead Apple Valley in its season-opening victory over Rosemount. His second scoring throw put the Eagles up for good, with 6:47 left in the game. Dustin Fronk had 98 receiving yards and caught the game-winning touchdown.... Bloomington Jefferson had a rough time against Wayzata, following behind 42-0 before getting its lone touchdown in the third quarter. Kwame Becker-Waganda led Jefferson with 53 yards rushing.

LAST WEEK—Eastview defeated Burnsville, 22-7; Wayzata defeated Bloomington Jefferson, 52-7.
GAME NOTES—Eastview, which led by a point at the end of the first quarter, opened up its offense with touchdowns in the second and fourth quarters.... Wayzata had an easy time with Bloomington Jefferson in its season-opener, scoring long touchdowns on runs of 42 and 50 yards, a 46-yard pass and a 95-yard fumble return.

TEAM RECORDS—Rosemount: 1-0 overall; Eden Prairie: 1-0 overall.
LAST WEEK—Rosemount lost to Apple Valley, 25-20; Eden Prairie defeated Champlin Park, 55-0
GAME NOTES—In its season-opener against Apple Valley, Rosemount led 20-19 in the fourth quarter on an eight-yard touchdown pass before Apple Valley scored midway through the quarter. Ali Al-Khatib rushed for a team-high 43 yards and two touchdowns.... Eden Prairie fell behind, 14-0, after one quarter before a 28-point second-quarter outburst. Dan Fisher rushed for three touchdowns in the second quarter and four touchdowns overall.
