FOOTBALL FRIDAY: Section Playoffs Continue

All three of Apple Valley-Rosemount's high school football teams still are alive in their section playoffs.

Here is a glance at Friday night’s section football playoff games involving Apple Valley-Rosemount teams:

SECTION 3AAAAA CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

GAME—Farmington at Apple Valley
PLACE—Apple Valley High School
TIME—7 p.m.
TEAM RECORDS—Apple Valley 7-2, Farmington 7-2
LAST WEEK—Apple Valley defeated St. Louis Park, 38-14; Farmington defeated Minneapolis Southwest, 49-35
GAME NOTES—Apple Valley is the top seed in Section 3AAAAAA, while Farmington is the second seed. Last week, Apple Valley received big games from Tommy Singer, Dom McDew-Stauffer and Dustin Fronk in its win over Farmington. Singer threw for 176 yards and two touchdowns, McDew-Stauffer rushed for 138 yards and two scores, and Fronk caught five passes for 128 and a pair of touchdowns…. Farmington scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns to break a 35-35 tie with Minneapolis Southwest. Quarterback Darren Beenken had a monster game at quarterback as he completed 12 of 20 passes for 311 yards and five touchdowns. Mac Bassett caught three of those scoring tosses.

SECTION 3AAAAAA/4AAAAAA TOURNAMENT

GAME—Eastview at Mounds View
PLACE—Mounds View High School
TIME—7 p.m.
TEAM RECORDS—Eastview 6-3, Mounds View 8-1
LAST WEEK—Eastview defeated Burnsville, 42-14; Mounds View defeated Forest Lake, 41-21
GAME NOTES—Eastview is the third seed in Section 3AAAAAA. Mounds View is the second seed in Section 4AAAAAA. Last week, Eastview trailed 7-6 in the first quarter before scoring five unanswered touchdowns. Will Rains ran for three touchdowns and Henry McIsaac threw for two scores…. Mounds View rolled out to a 35-0 lead before halftime in its victory over Forest Lake. One of those touchdowns came on a 17-yard fumble return.

GAME—Rosemount at Stillwater
PLACE—Stillwater High School
TIME—7 p.m.
TEAM RECORDS—Rosemount 5-4, Stillwater 8-1
LAST WEEK—Rosemount defeated Lakeville South, 20-7; Stillwater defeated North St. Paul, 41-13
GAME NOTES—Rosemount is the fourth seed in Section 3AAAAAA. Stillwater is the top seed in Section 4AAAAAA. Last week, Rosemount and Lakeville South were scoreless until the fourth quarter, when Rosemount broke away with 20 straight points. Ali Al-Khatib led the Irish with 157 yards rushing, with 57 of those yards coming on Rosemount’s final score.... Stillwater had an easy time last week as its balanced offense gained more than 300 yards and its defense held North St. Paul with less than 200 yards. Nate Ricci threw for 134 yards and two touchdowns and Zach Knox rushed for 119 yards and three scores.
