Former Eastview Softball Coach Becomes UMD Assistant

Rosemount native Ashley Johnson played for the Bulldogs until she graduated in 2011.

The University of Minnesota Duluth has selected Rosemount native and former Eastview High School assistant coach Ashley Johnson as one of two new assistant softball coaches, the school announced Friday.

Johnson graduated from UMD in 2011 with a degree in exercise science. She was a catcher and outfielder on the softball team, which she captained in her junior and senior seasons.

During her four years on the team, she had a .347 career batting average—with 217 hits, 26 home runs, 344 total bases and 149 RBIs. She had a fielding percentage of .991.

Johnson won All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference honors twice.

Out of college, she was a junior varsity coach at Burnsville High School and then a varsity assistant coach with Eastview.
