On a bitterly cold Feb. 2, the District 196 boys and girls nordic ski teams turned up the heat as they competed in the South Suburban Conference championship. The meet consisted of a freestyle race and a classic race.

The boys team, led by seniors Andy Dodds and Chris Parr, finished first with 173 points; Dodds finished second overall, and Parr third. The girls team, led by Sonja Hedblom and Anne Ferguson, took third place with 123 points.
