Jaryn Pipkins is Third Lions Club 'Athlete of the Year' from Apple Valley High

The Apple Valley High track and basketball star is the first female student from the high school to win the honor.

Jaryn Pipkins, an Apple Valley High School basketball and track and field star, was named amateur athlete of the year by the St. Paul Downtown Lions Club during a Tuesday banquet.

"Just to be in the group of finalists for the award was incredible,'' Pipkins told the Pioneer Press. "To be selected is an amazing honor and incredible feeling. I've had a wonderful high school career and experience. I've put in a lot of hard work and had the support of so many to get where I am. This is a blessing.''

Pipkins, Apple Valley's first female winner and third winner overall, will be headed to Dartmouth College in the fall for track and field.
