Photo Gallery: Apple Valley Wrestlers Leave No Doubt Heading to State

The Apple Valley High School wrestling team blazed through the Section 3AAA tournament Friday, winning every match handily.

Apple Valley wrestling head coach Jim Jackson said his motto for his team this year has been to "leave no doubt" as to who the best wrestling team is in Minnesota, and possibly America. The team certainly left no doubt as to why they were the No. 1 seed at the Section 3AAA wrestling tournament held Friday at Apple Valley High School. The Eagles blew past Burnsville, Eagan and Hastings to claim the section title.

"Going to state never gets old," assistant coach Josh Barlayge said. "We got a lot of momentum here."

The team is returning to state with some veteran faces, but also with some new ones, including seventh-grader Mark Hall, who wrestled in the 130-pound weight class.

"It's my all-time dream to become a state champ," Hall said after receiving his medal Friday.

To leave no doubt that they are the best team in the nation, "we have to finish strong" at state, Jackson said. But Jackson didn't want to look too far ahead, and was almost speechless as to how well his team performed on Friday night.

"The performance [at sections] speaks for itself," Jackson said.
