Photo Gallery: Eastview Sweeps Apple Valley in Tuesday Hoops Match-Ups

The Lightning boys and girls basketball teams topped Apple Valley in Tuesday's rivalry games.

Eastview claimed basketball bragging rights within Apple Valley on Tuesday, as the Lightning earned wins in both boys and girls match-ups against cross-town rival Apple Valley. Both Eastview teams also completed regular-season sweeps, after previously topping the Eagles on Jan. 14.

Boys Basketball: Eastview 74, Apple Valley 67

The Eastview boys basketball team rallied from a 41-36 halftime deficit to claim a 74-67 victory at Apple Valley.

While the Eagles led for nearly three-quarters of the contest and held a 10-point advantage with just more than one minute remaining in the first half, the Lightning battled back to take the lead for good with nearly eight minutes to play en route to the seven-point triumph.

Apple Valley guard Tyus Jones led all scorers with 33 points, while Eastview forward Joey King tallied 30 points for his team in the victory.

The win kept the Lightning within one game of first place in the South Suburban Conference, with a 10-3 circuit record, and improved the team's overall record to 16-4.

The Eagles dropped to 12-9 overall and 8-5 in the conference with the defeat.

Apple Valley plays at South Suburban co-leader Eagan at 7:15 p.m. Friday, at the same time as Eastview hosts Rosemount.

Girls Basketball: Eastview 59, Apple Valley 58

The Eastview girls basketball team eked out a 59-58 home win against Apple Valley on Tuesday to earn the clean sweep.

Eastview had a 27-21 halftime lead and held on over the final 18 minutes against a furious Eagles comeback effort to claim the one-point victory.

Lightning guard Jenna Dockter led all scorers with 24 points, while Apple Valley guard Jordan Sammons recorded 18 points to lead the visitors.

The win propelled Eastview to an 18-5 overall record and keeps the team in second place in the South Suburban with a 12-3 league record; Apple Valley dropped to 8-14 overall and 5-10 in the conference with the loss.

The Eagles host Eagan on Thursday night, and the Lightning play at Rosemount on Friday; both games tip off at 7:15 p.m.
