Rosemount Rolls Over Apple Valley On Homecoming Night

Irish claim 13-0 lead before Eagles take first offensive snap in 39-6 victory.

The game was all-but over in the first 23 seconds.

Playing in front of an overflow audience on Homecoming night at Irish Stadium, the Rosemount football team needed just one play to take a lead it would not relinquish in a 39-6 victory over Apple Valley.

Running back Andy Gustafson was handed the ball from Nate Lemoine off of the Irish's initial offensive snap and ran 80 yards straight up the middle of the field en route to a touchdown that gave an elated home side the advantage for good.

Just seconds later, Rosemount's Ben Sandoz recovered an Eagles' fumble on the ensuing kickoff to set the Irish up on the visitor's 27-yard line.

It took four plays for Lemoine hit Mitchell Leko on a touchdown pass as Rosemount held a 13-0 lead before Apple Valley had run a single offensive play.

It would be that kind of night for the Irish, who rolled to a 33-7 halftime edge on a fumble recovery for a touchdown by Brian Rogers just before the break en route to a 33-point triumph to improve to 4-2 this season.

Rosemount heads to Eastview next Friday night, before returning home to play Eagan in the regular-season finale at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 19.
