Sports Roundup: Apple Valley, Eastview Soccer Go 4-for-4 in Sectionals

The Apple Valley girls team stunned Park in the 3AA opener on Tuesday night; the boys and girls teams face Eastview on Thursday.

Postseason play began in the most triumphant manner possible for the and soccer teams as all four squads won their sectional openers on Tuesday night, including a big upset for the Eagles girls on the road.

Eagles Girls Soccer

Megan Maki netted the natural hat trick with three straight goals as the sixth-seeded Apple Valley girls soccer team blew out third-seeded Park, 4-1, in the Section 3AA Tournament in Cottage Grove.

The Wolfpack's lone goal came on a penalty kick; goalkeeper Lauren Hoeppner was otherwise perfect in the Eagles' net.

Apple Valley's triumph advances the squad into a sectional semifinal at second-seeded Eastview at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Lightning Girls Soccer

There was not much in the way of drama for the Eastview girls soccer team in its first Section 3AA matchup as the second-seeded Lightning cruised to a 5-1 defeat of No. 7 at home.

Paris Sanders netted two goals with two assists to lead the home side to victory as goalie Anhthu Huynh stopped five of six Warriors shots.

Eastview, ranked eighth in Class AA, hosts neighboring rival Apple Valley at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Eagles Boys Soccer

The fourth-seeded Apple Valley boys soccer team opened its sectional run in impressive manner, blanking No. 5 Henry Sibley by a 4-0 score at Johnny Cake Field.

Individual statistics were not made available. The two-time defending Class AA state champions, ranked No. 1 when the season began, face current top-rankee and sectional seed Eastview across the street from their home field in the 3AA semifinals on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Lightning Boys Soccer

Matt Miller scored one goal in each half as top-seeded Eastview blanked No. 8 Hastings, 4-0, in its sectional opener at home.

Goalie Treston Kederer made four saves for his fifth shutout of the season and second clean sheet against the Raiders in 10 days. The sophomore made four saves in a 5-0 defeat of Hastings on Oct. 1.

Eastview, ranked No. 1 in Class AA, will host cross-town rival and two-time defending state champion Apple Valley in the sectional semifinals at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Eagles Girls Swimming and Diving

The Apple Valley girls swimming and diving team won 7 out of 12 events, but fell to by a 92-88 score on Tuesday.

Delaney McDonald won the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard backstroke, Steph Bierman won both the 50- and 100-yard freestyle, Gennie Galligan took first in diving and Kate Wright took the top spot in both the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly.

McDonald's time of 1 minute, 2.11 seconds in the 100 backstroke and Wright's time of 1:02.74 in the 100 butterfly were personal bests.

Lightning Volleyball

The Eastview volleyball team lost 3-1 to No. 2-ranked Lakeville South on Tuesday to fall to 10-10 overall and 4-4 in the South Suburban Conference.

The Lightning host an invitational tournament this Friday and Saturday, then close out the regular season versus Bloomington Kennedy on Tuesday, Oct. 18 and at Chaska on Thursday, Oct. 20.

Eagles Volleyball

A 3-0 loss to fifth-ranked on Tuesday dropped the Apple Valley volleyball team to 13-11 overall and 4-4 in the South Suburban.

The Eagles play at Concordia Academy in Roseville on Thursday night, then conclude the regular season at third-ranked Bloomington Jefferson on Tuesday, Oct. 18.

Scores and statistics for a scheduled girls swim/dive meet between Eastview and Prior Lake on Tuesday were not reported.
