Sports Roundup: Apple Valley, Eastview Teams Squeeze In Pre-Labor Day Games

In the final days leading up to the start of school, Apple Valley and Eastview teams competed in a full spectrum of events.

Eagles Cross Country

The Apple Valley boys and girls cross country running teams finished second and third, respectively, at the Dakota Classic in Eagan last Friday.

Nick Hughes led the Eagles boys with a third-place time of 10 minutes, 45.3 seconds, with Alex Brandel in ninth with a 10:57 and Jack Crippes in 13th at 11:08.5.

Alexa Nelson paced the Apple Valley girls with a ninth-place run of 12:32, with teammates Abbey Singleton (12:38.4) and Natalie Webb (12:43.5) placing 11th and 14th, respectively.

Lightning Cross Country

Beating out 25 other teams, the Eastview boys cross country team won the Rolf Mellby Invitational at St. Olaf College in Northfield last Friday.

Ken Hoffman led the way for the Lightning, taking 11th in 17:14. Also contributing to Eastview's first-place finish were: Nick Oelke (17:19) in 13th, David Salter (17:22) in 15th, Dan Spika (17:45) in 29th and Joe Manders (17:54) in 36th.

Eagles Girls Tennis

Back-to-back wins over Bloomington rivals boosted the Apple Valley girls tennis team's record to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in the South Suburban Conference as the Eagles topped Jefferson (6-1) and Kennedy (7-0) last Wednesday and Thursday.

Singles players Malini Wijesinghe, Mia Davis, Danielle Tobroxen and Jazmin Awada all went 2-0 against the Jaguars and Eagles, as did the doubles teams of Mouy Bun/Anna Nguyen and Kati Erb/Katrina Volgagesang.

Lightning Girls Tennis

The Eastview girls tennis team lost 5-2 to Prior Lake last Thursday. Individual statistics were not made available.

Eagles Boys Soccer

The Apple Valley boys soccer team bounced back from its first loss of the season on Aug. 29 with back-to-back 5-0 shutouts of visiting Richfield and Minnehaha Academy last Thursday and Friday, respectively. Individual statistics were not made available.

Lightning Volleyball

A four-game loss to visiting Wayzata (17-25, 28-26, 21-25, 20-25) last Thursday dropped the Eastview volleyball team to 0-2 on the season. Individual statistics were not made available.

Eagles Volleyball

The Apple Valley volleyball team topped Chaska in four games (25-21, 25-16, 24-26, 25-18) last Thursday to improve to 1-1 on the season. Individual statistics were not made available.

Eagles Girls Soccer

A 2-1 defeat of Champlin Park in its final pre-South Suburban tuneup last Thursday improved the Apple Valley girls soccer team to 2-2 on the season. Individual statistics were not made available.

Lightning Girls Swim/Dive

The Eastview girls swimming and diving team won its South Suburban dual meet last Thursday, defeating Burnsville by a 92-86 score. Individual statistics were not made available.

Eagles Girls Swim/Dive

Prior Lake defeated the Apple Valley girls swimming and diving team, 99-76, in a South Suburban dual meet last Thursday. Individual statistics were not made available.
