Sports Roundup: Apple Valley Girls Hockey Off to 3-0 Start

High school girls hockey began regular season games on Thursday.

The winter sports season is underway for and Eastview high schools. Both schools' girls hockey teams kicked off season play on Thursday.

Apple Valley Girls Hockey

The Apple Valley girls hockey team has started its season 3-0, with a 6-3 win over on Thursday, a 5-3 victory against on Saturday and a 3-0 win over on Tuesday.

In the team's outing against East Ridge, freshman Rachel Goodman scored twice in the second period, and junior Marie Breckner added the third goal in the third period.

Goodman currently is the state leader in goals scored this season, with eight. Goalie Hailey Sampson is at first in the state in wins and third in save percentage with a .933.

The team was 6-19-0 in the South Suburban Conference last season.

The girls' next game is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday at undefeated Wayzata.

Eastview Girls Hockey

The Eastview girls hockey team looks to rebound from an 0-2 start this season, with its first home game of the season scheduled for 2:15 p.m. Saturday against at the Apple Valley Sports Arena.

Eastview lost 5-2 to Hastings on Thursday, and 9-1 to Edina on Tuesday this week.

Taylor Fienhage, Erika Geary and Taylor Tvedt each have scored for Eastview so far this season.

The team was 16-7-2 in the South Suburban Conference last season.
