Sports Roundup: Apple Valley Hosts Invitational Cross-Country Meet

Twenty-six teams competed at Apple Valley High School on Saturday.

It was a busy weekend at as the Eagles cross country program hosted an invitational meet on Saturday as the volleyball team put on a tournament on both Friday and Saturday.

Apple Valley Cross Country

The Apple Valley boys and girls cross-country teams finished fourth and sixth, respectively, at the Apple Valley Invitational.

Alex Hangel led the Eagles boys with a 13th-place time of 17 minutes, 6 seconds; Alexa Nelson paced the girls squad with a 19th-place result of 15:39.

Ken Hoffman and Nick Oelke placed third and fourth with times of 16:28 at the Apple Valley Invite as the Eastview boys cross country team took second place overall.

Eastview Girls Cross Country

The Eastview girls cross-country team finished eighth in the Maroon Division at the Roy Griak Invitational at the University of Minnesota's Les Bolstad Golf Course on Saturday. 

Courtney Conroy (20:54), Jena Moody (21:09) and Lauren Herland (21:21) finished in 35th, 46th and 54th, respectively, in the 394-runner field. 

Apple Valley Volleyball

The Apple Valley volleyball team fell to 8-7 overall with a 1-3 eighth-place appearance in its own tournament, .

After topping Alexandria, the Eagles lost to No. 6 Blaine, No. 8 Eagan and Marshall—the top-ranked team in Class AA.

Eastview Volleyball

Two wins and two losses in the Apple Valley Tournament earned the Eastview volleyball team an 11th-place finish and gave the squad a 7-9 record entering this week. 

The Lightning —ranked No. 3 in Class AAA—and Class A's top-ranked Bethlehem Academy.

Apple Valley Girls Soccer

Two shutout wins and a shutout loss over the weekend gave the Apple Valley girls soccer team a 5-6-2 record heading into its final three-game stretch of the regular season.

The Eagles blanked Bloomington Kennedy 5-0 last Thursday and Two Harbors 1-0 on Friday before falling 2-0 to Duluth East on Saturday. Individual results were not made available. 

Eastview Girls Soccer

The eighth-ranked Eastview girls soccer team tied No. 2 (1-1) and topped Class A's No. 3-ranked St. Paul Academy (1-0) last Thursday and Saturday to improve to 8-2-2 overall.

Paris Sanders continues to lead the Lightning with eight goals this autumn, followed up by Leah Neshheim's seven scores; goalkeeper Anhthu Huynh has five shutouts in 12 games played this season.

Apple Valley Boys Soccer

A 1-0 defeat of Park of Cottage Grove on Saturday gave the defending state champion Apple Valley boys soccer team a 9-2-1 record heading into a Tuesday showdown with current No. 1-ranked Eastview on Tuesday night.

Connor Flanagan headed into the week with a team-high eight goals, followed by Mitchell Dawson's five scores.

Eastview Boys Soccer

Top-ranked Eastview heads into Tuesday night's in-town showdown with Apple Valley with an undefeated 10-0-1 record after defeating No. 7 Lakeville North by a 3-2 score last Thursday.

Matthew Gweh entered the week tied for third in the metro with 16 goals in 11 games, while the goalkeeping tandem of Treston Kederer and Sam Ruelas have respective goals-against-averages of .906 and .875 this autumn.

Apple Valley Girls Swimming and Diving

The Apple Valley girls swimming and diving team defeated Burnsville last Thursday.

Gennie Galligan (158.40), Erika Wielenga (135.75) and Amanda Johnson (133.8) gave the Eagles a 1-2-3 sweep off the 1-meter diving board, with Delaney McDonald winning the 200-yard individual medley in 2 minutes, 11.98 seconds.

Apple Valley Girls Tennis

The Apple Valley girls tennis team lost 6-1 to last Thursday, with the No. 2 doubles team of Laura Wolff and Mouy Dun winning 6-0, 7-5 for the Eagles lone match victory.

Results were not made available for the Eastview girls tennis and girls swim/dive teams.
