Sports Roundup: Eastview, Apple Valley Soccer Teams Cap Regular Seasons

The Eastview boys soccer team claimed the South Suburban Conference title, and heads into postseason ranked No. 1 in Class AA.

Soccer squads from and closed out their respective regular seasons on Thursday night, with boys and girls teams from both schools now turning their attention to the post-season. The Lightning boys carry Class AA's No. 1 ranking into the Section 3AA tournament.

Eastview Boys Soccer

Its South Suburban Conference title already in hand, the Eastview boys soccer team took a victory lap with a 1-0 win over Prior Lake on Thursday.

Mathew Gweh recorded his team-high 21st goal of the season—the most in the state—in the victory, while Sam Ruelas made 13 saves to claim his fourth shutout of the year.

As the No. 1-ranked big-school squad, the Lightning are a mortal lock to claim the top seed in the Section 3AA bracket, with the playoffs scheduled for three rounds from Oct. 11-18. Eastview's first-round opponent was yet to be named as of Friday morning.

Eastview Girls Soccer

The No. 7-ranked Eastview girls soccer team concluded its regular season with its second-straight tie in a 1-1 deadlock versus visiting Prior Lake on Thursday.

The knotting gave the Lightning a 10-2-4 overall record and a fourth-best South Suburban mark of 4-1-4.

Statistics from the contest were not available. Eastview begins Section 3AA play against a yet-to-be determined opponent on Oct. 11.

Apple Valley Boys Soccer

A second-straight defeat, 2-1 to Burnsville, on Thursday dropped the Apple Valley boys soccer team to 10-5-1 overall and 4-4-1 in the South Suburban as the regular season concluded.

Updated individual statistics were not made available. The Eagles begin Section 3AA play against a yet-to-be determined foe on Oct. 11.

Apple Valley Girls Soccer

Four straight losses, the last a 4-0 setback at fourth-ranked Burnsville on Thursday, ushered the Apple Valley girls soccer team into the post-season with a 5-9-2 overall record and a 2-5-2 conference mark.

Eastview/Apple Valley Girls Swimming and Diving

The Eastview girls swimming and diving team defeated Apple Valley, 95.5-79.5 in a South Suburban dual meet on Thursday. Individual statistics were not made available.

Eastview Bowling

The Eastview bowling team has three members—Matt Henning, Tyler Holmvik and Eric Hatzbuhler—ranked in the top-50 in the state. The Lightning lost to Burnsville on Oct. 1, despite a perfect day from Holmvik, with 11 strikes and seven spares.

Apple Valley Cross Country

The Apple Valley boys and girls cross-country teams both claimed narrow wins over their hosts in the St. Michael-Albertville Invitational on Thursday, with the Eagles boys recording 66 points and the girls logging 54 points—both two points better than the Knights.

Eastview Girls Tennis

The Eastview girls tennis team was eliminated from the Section 3AA Tournament after the fifth-seeded Lightning lost 5-2 to No. 4 seed Visitation on Thursday. Selected members of the squad will compete in the sectional individual tournament that runs Oct. 14-18.

Apple Valley Girls Tennis

A 6-1 loss to third-seeded Rosemount eliminated the No. 6 Apple Valley girls tennis team from the Section 3AA Tournament on Thursday. Selected members of the squad will compete in the sectional individual tournament that runs Oct. 14-18.

Eastview Volleyball

A 3-0 defeat of visiting Prior Lake on Thursday improved the Eastview volleyball team to 10-9 overall and 4-3 in the conference. Individual statistics were not made available.

Apple Valley Volleyball

The Apple Valley volleyball team improved to 9-10 overall and 4-3 in the conference with a 3-1 defeat of host Burnsville on Thursday. Individual statistics were not made available.
