Sports Roundup: Eastview Soccer Teams Get Their Kicks

It's been a good time to be an soccer fan, as both Lightning varsity soccer teams kept their undefeated runs alive with mid-week shutout victories to open the South Suburban Conference season.

Lightning Boys Soccer

The Eastview boys soccer team, now ranked seventh in Class AA, improved its record to 4-0 on the year by blanking 4-0 score on the road Tuesday night.

Mathew Gweh continues to lead Eastview with eight points on five goals and three assists, while Brennan Espinda Banick has logged three goals and four assists.

The Lightning goalkeeping tandem of Treston Kederer and Sam Ruelas have been nearly perfect in the early goings, saving 13 of the 14 shots they have faced in all, with Kederer claiming two shutouts and Ruelas one.

Lightning Girls Soccer

The Eastview girls soccer team also improved to 4-0 with a 1-0 defeat of host Lakeville South in its South Suburban opener on Tuesday. 

Individual scoring statistics for the game were not yet available. It was the third shutout in four wins for Lightning goalie Anhthu Huynh.

Eagles Boys Soccer

The boys soccer team, which has dropped from No. 1 to No. 10 in the Class AA rankings, could not muster up a goal in its South Suburban opener, forging a 0-0 tie against visiting at on Tuesday.

The deadlock, coming on the heels of back-to-back 5-0 wins over Minnehaha Academy and last week, gave the defending state champions a 3-1-1 record as it headed to Blaine to close out the week by playing in the NSC Challenge Cup.

Eagles Girls Soccer

A 5-0 loss to visiting Lakeville North in the South Suburban opener on Tuesday dropped the Apple Valley girls soccer team to 2-3 on the season. 

The Eagles had gone into the contest on a two-game winning streak that culminated in a 2-1 win at Champlin Park last Thursday.

Lightning Volleyball

The Eastview volleyball team earned its vist match victory of the season on Tuesday night, topping in five games (17-25, 25-19, 25-23, 19-25, 15-10) in Woodbury. Individual statistics were not made available.

Lightning Girls Swimming and Diving

The Eastview girls swimming and diving team topped Bloomington Jefferson, 100-78, on Wednesday in a South Suburban dual meet. Individual statistics were not made available.
