Volleyball
In a five-game battle, it was the Rosemount volleyball team that came out on top at New Prague (25-18, 22-25, 18-25, 25-18, 15-6) in a non-conference marathon to improve to 3-0 on the year.
Through three matches, Natalie Busher leads the team with 47 kills, while Mikaela Sullivan is the squad-leader in assists with 110, as is Nicole Valenti in digs, with 44.
The Irish are off until next Tuesday, when they host Apple Valley in the South Suburban opener at 7 p.m.
Girls Swimming and Diving
The Rosemount girls swimming and diving team defeated Eagan, 98-80, to improve to 2-0 in South Suburban dual meets.
Claiming individual wins for the Irish were: Megan Wenman (100- and 200-yard freestyle), Olivia Johnston (200-yard individual medley), Teija Normandeau (50-yard freestyle), Sawyer Murray (1-meter diving) and Claire Tolan (500-yard freestyle).
The Irish won the 200-yard medley relay with the foursome of Wenman, Johnston, Normandeau and Katrina Orthmann, while the quartet of Johnston, Wenman, Normandeau and Elysse Griffith took first in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Wenman also swam the fastest time in the 100-yard backstroke, as did the Rosemount 400-yard freestyle team of Lindsey Erickson, Megan Kappes, Leah Michelsen and Trier Buhrsmith, but those events were competed in as exhibitions with Rosemount already claiming the team victory.
Next up, the Irish host Apple Valley on Thursday, Sept. 15 at 6 p.m.
