Sports Roundup: Irish Soccer Squads Wrap Regular Season

Rosemount suffers back-to-back losses at Eagan in Thursday's regular-season finale; girls netters advance in sectional tournament.

The regular season came to a close for the Rosemount boys and girls soccer teams, while the post-season carried on for the Irish girls tennis squad on Thursday.

Girls Tennis

After a 16-3-1 regular season, the Rosemount girls tennis team was awarded the No. 3 seed for the Section 3AA Tournament and the Irish have made good in their first two matchups, blanking No. 14 Park 7-0 on Tuesday and besting No. 6 Apple Valley 6-1 on Thursday.

Individual statistics were not made available. Next up for Rosemount is a sectional semifinal matchup against No. 2 Eagan on Oct. 11 at Lifetime Fitness in Lakeville. The finals are at Lifetime on Oct. 13.

Girls Soccer

The Rosemount girls soccer team bid adieu to the regular season in a 4-1 loss at third-ranked Eagan that came on the heels of a 0-0 tie versus No. 7 Eastview on Tuesday.

Hannah Halterman concluded the pre-playoff schedule as the Irish's top scorer with nine goals. Jana Elliott, Madeline Phillips and Kaylie Hanson have all netted four goals apiece this regular season.

Rosemount heads into the Section 3AA Tournament next week after posting a 10-4-2 overall record and a 4-3-2 conference mark this autumn. Seedings and matchups have not yet been announced for the sectional, to be played in three rounds from Oct. 11-18.

Boys Soccer

Back-to-back 3-0 losses to No. 1 Eastview and No. 8 Eagan on Tuesday and Thursday, respectively, dropped the Rosemount boys soccer team to 3-10-2 overall and 1-7-1 in the final South Suburban standings as the Irish prepare for the playoffs.

Individual statistics were not made available. Seedings and matchups for the Section 3AA Tournament, to be played in three rounds from Oct. 11-18, have not yet been announced.

Cross-Country Running

The Rosemount boys and girls cross-country running teams both claimed first-place finishes in the Ed Berg Invitational on Thursday. 

Individual statistics were not made available. The boys recorded 28 points to out-run second-place Rochester Mayo, while the girls topped runner-up Dover-Eyota-Saint Charles with 85 points.

Girls Swimming and Diving

The Rosemount girls swimming and diving team took second at the Marauder Invite at St. Cahtherine's University in St. Paul on Oct. 1.

With 522.5 points, the Irish finished behind Minnetonka, yet well ahead of third-place St. Louis Park.

Winning individually were: Megan Wenman (200-yard freestyle) and Olivia Johnston (200-yard individual medley).

Rosemount lost 98-87 to Lakeville North in a South Suburban dual on Thursday.

Volleyball

The Rosemount volleyball team fell to 7-8 overall and 1-6 in the conference with a 3-1 loss to visiting Eastview on Tuesday and a 3-0 loss at No. 4-ranked Eagan on Thursday. Updated individual statistics were not made available.
