Will Vikings Draft Rosemount's Compton?

Rosemount High School graduate Tom Compton recently worked out for the Vikings and other teams during the University of South Dakota's Pro Day.

Tom Compton reportedly “wowed scouts” at the University of South Dakota’s open Pro Day last week according to KELOLAND.com. The 6’6” 314-pound offensive tackle worked out for NFL representatives that included the Minnesota Vikings, Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers.

Compton was a two-year starter for the football team and helped lead the Irish to section championship and state semifinal games before graduating in 2007.

"You come here your freshman year and you're just trying to get a spot on the team. Then I had my coaches believing in me saying you're going to play in the NFL. It just kind of sticks with you and you keep rolling," Compton told KELOLAND.com. "This is all part of the dream. Every day it's becoming more of a reality which is fun to see."

Compton is projected by many analysts to be a mid- to late-round selection, but his stock could be rising with impressive workouts. This year’s NFL Draft is deep in offensive line talent and the Vikings, looking to replenish their depleted offensive line, will likely select USC’s Matt Kalil to fill their left tackle spot with the third pick overall. But that doesn’t rule out adding much-needed depth to the line later in the draft.

The NFL Draft begins April 26.
